Continuum

Amid the weathered, abandoned spaces of Boley, Oklahoma—a once-thriving historic Black town—a young cowboy walks the line between the present day and the echoes of the past. As memories of the town’s golden era flood his mind’s eye, the surrounding emptiness and isolating toil of farm work weigh heavily upon him. But history and community here is alive. Called into the forest by the spirit of an ancestor, he receives a profound awakening and the inspiration needed to endure. A tribute to Boley’s collective memory, Continuum integrates archival footage of the town throughout the film, culminating in a visual showcase of its enduring heartbeat, and the people who continue to carry it forward today.

Director Biography – George Ankamah

I was born in Accra, Ghana, moved to Germany at four, and immigrated to the United States when I was nine. Navigating so many different cultures as a child made me deeply sensitive to the nuances of human experience, leaving me with a deep curiosity about how we connect in this world.

I first found my visual voice through 35mm stills photography, which made it clear that storytelling was my true path and led me to study Cinematography at the Community College of Aurora’s Cinematic Arts program. As a filmmaker, my goal is to focus on sincere, genuine stories about people of color and marginalized communities, told from their own perspectives rather than a narrative that has been cast upon them.

Director Statement

This project is my very first film, and it stands as a definitive statement of what I want to do with my career. Throughout production, it was incredibly humbling and rewarding to be so warmly accepted and embraced by the people of Boley, Oklahoma. Their trust allowed me to capture something truly genuine, and that shared warmth shines through on the screen. I believe in honoring the authenticity of a community rather than falling into clichéd narratives.

More than anything, I wanted this film to be an honest, respectful reflection of Boley. To honor that history completely, we blended archival footage of the historic town with the vibrant, living energy we captured at the annual Boley Rodeo. Merging these archival layers with our modern cinematography directly reinforces the truth of the film, bridging the past and present to mirror the endurance of the town and its people. This visual contrast was vital to the narrative we wanted to put across and shows that Boley’s legacy isn’t just something preserved in memory, but a living, breathing spirit that continues today.
